What should a children's book achieve?

Certainly children's books should entertain though they don't necessarily need to amuse. Personally I think it is possible to inspire and illuminate without talking down to children. Moral messages are not necessarily distasteful to them. C.S. Lewis's enduring popularity proves that.

My children's book "Tales My Ghanaian Grandmother Told Me" (http://www.strategicbookpublishing.com/TalesMyGhanaianGrandmotherToldMe.html) combines inspiration and illumination in - what I hope - is an entertaining manner.
